The Balance

10 years in the making, the Balance explores the highly secretive Egum cult in the city of Sao Paulo, in Brazil. The ancestor spirits - Egum - compel the living to uphold the ethical standards of past generations, while spiritually cleansing and protecting them. 

Through the eyes of Zu, a high priest in the cult, we witness the passage from childhood to manhood in a series of rituals designed to reveal future generations of priests, while bringing to the fore conflicts within a community that struggles to keep ancestor worship alive in the 21st century.
